Department/Unit Summary

As an Environmental Services Department at Vanderbilt Medical Center, we are dedicated to maintaining a healthy and clean environment for our patients and family members. We have a very diverse department with team members who enjoy what they do and are excited about being a part of the Vanderbilt family. We sustain a high cleaning standard by employing a nine step cleaning process while training on proper chemical use, proper protective equipment, and patient safety. The Environmental Services Team is responsible for ensuring the hospital environment is patient ready and our team is full of employees who are always willing to help!

Our team consists of three shifts that clean patient rooms, offices, conduct safe trash disposal, and perform floor care. With a team of managers committed to creating an environment of excellence. Our department has made great strides as we celebrate higher HCAPS scores, consistent employee retention, and overall improved moral. Welcome to EVS where “Everyone Smiles.”

Your Role:

  • Responsible for assisting in the management and coordination of the day to day operations of the department.

  • Supervise staff and supervisors of over 25 employees, coordinate projects, direct personnel functions and develop/implement policies and procedures.

  • Properly dispose of hospital trash and bio-hazard waste.

  • Maintain hospital floor care through our floor care program.

  • Monitor Patient Flow thru a bed tracking system and work with bed management.

  • Rounding on units & quality inspections thru a system called Orange QC

  • Monitor Attendance thru a Kronos Clock System.

Key Functions and Expected Performances:

  1. Ensure the smooth operations of EVS Department staff segment so that quality services are provided to all ancillary and clinical areas within the hospital.

a. Supervise and coordinate departmental projects.

b. Coordinate operational tasks and resolve problems with other department managers to ensure timely and efficient service.

c. Evaluate service and recommend operational and or organizational change.

d. Coordinate activities and problem resolutions with various departments throughout the hospital. Serve as liaison to ensure availability, quality and cost effective resolution to problems.

e. Supervise a section with responsibility for planning, coordination, and controlling day to day operations and procedures, to include daily absence tracking, staff planning, quality monitoring, Kronos editing, and other EVS administrative functions.

f. Troubleshoot and resolve operational and staffing issues by implementing all VUMC policies and practices and EVS departmental policies and practices, to include conflict resolution, progressive discipline, employee recognition, as well as participating in staff recruiting initiatives.

  1. Ensure all financial resources are utilized effectively.

a. Assist Manager in budget preparation and staff payroll.

b. Monitor compliance of expenditures to annual budget and determine allocation of department resources to include staff finance and equipment.

  1. Supervise staff to ensure a safe, satisfying and enriching environment for employees.

a. Conduct in-service educational program per established guidelines, as well as maintain a vibrant employee recognition program.

b. Conduct hiring, training, evaluation, professional development and salary administration per institutional procedures.

  1. Ensure all Quality Standards within assigned area are met.

a. Implement policies and procedures, and maintain quality monitoring and reporting through Qtrax to provide quality assurance.

b. Ensure department functions are in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Position Qualifications

Required:

  • Job requires Associate's and 2 years of experience or the equivalent

Preferred:

  • Previous Leadership experience
