YourRole :

Performs a variety of duties involved in the collection, interpretation, and documentation of data in support of clinical trials. Assists in ensuring adherence to protocols, appropriate regulations, and deadlines. Ensures quality of information received.


  • Assists nursein assessing patient eligibility for approved study.

  • Knowledgeableof protocols in order to determine specific criteria for eligibility orexclusion.

  • Gatherscomplete medical history of patient.

  • Ensurespatient consent forms are completed.

  • Reviewsmedical history to determine eligibility status

  • Discussesfindings with research nurse.

  • Processespatient data and runs reports as needed.

  • Abstracts andrecords all patient data essential to the study onto required case reportforms.

  • Sets uptimeline of tests and required procedures for nurse.

  • Inputs allpertinent patient data into database accurately

  • Collects andmonitors all study patients records to document treatments and outcomes asrequired by the protocol

  • Reports alladverse reactions according to VU and protocol guidelines

  • Checks valuesfrom lab and rates toxicity levels

  • Ensurescomplete source documentation in record

  • Ensurestreatment and dates match

  • Assists nurseand Clinical Trials Specialist with monitoring compliance with protocoland regulations

  • Ensuresdeadlines are met for study

  • Informs nurseof tests and procedures as needed

  • Schedulesshipping of specimens and samples to meet protocol deadlines.

  • Coordinateswith patient's PCP or testing facility to ensure tests or procedures areconducted as required.

  • Prepares kitsfor procedures, labels tubes, gives to nurse with specific times and datesfor collection.

  • Freezes,spins, separates samples, and cultures as necessary. Mails to designatedlabs.

  • Meets withand assists in response to sponsors and monitors to ensure compliance withprotocol and applicable regulations.

  • Answersqueries from sponsoring companies.

  • Meets withmonitors to respond to any question of data validity.

  • Conductsfollow-up of study patients.

  • Calls orsends questionnaires to patient to check outcomes, survival rate, andquality of life.

  • Informs tumorregistry, appropriate clinics, and hospital of patient status.

  • May conductoutside audits of other institutions data.

  • Knowledgeableof protocol

  • Examine dataand records to ensure compliance with protocol.
