Department/Unit Summary

We are dedicated to our patients and surgeons by providing quality care with attention to reusable instrumentation. Our commitment is “Every Patient, Every Time”. We are the heart of the hospital!

Our Sterile processing department is comprised of two locations that work together to ensure high quality instruments needs are met for the patient and surgeon. With the use of our instrument tracking system we excel in the preparation of reusable instrumentation and equipment for clinical and surgical procedures across the entire campus. Services include but not limited to Robotic, Endoscopic, Laparoscopic, Cardiac, Trauma, Neuro, Spine, Orthopedic, Ear Nose and Throat, Plastics, Ophthalmology, Vascular, Donor, and transplant services.

  • We average 150 surgical procedures a day

  • Central Sterile processing on main campus, includes 29 team members and provides reprocessing service for 37 clinics and units as well as 54 operating rooms.

  • Endosurgery department on main campus includes 10 team members specialized in reprocessing Endoscopic and laparoscopic equipment.

  • 100 Oaks Central Sterile processing includes 2 team members focused on reprocessing clinic instrumentation and equipment.

  • Vanderbilt Case Cart Operation Center includes 24 team members that provides reprocessing service for 21 offsite clinics and 54 operating rooms.

Your Role:

  • Ensures the accurate assembly of instrument trays and/or equipment independently. Utilization of the instrument tracking system and maintaining adequate sterilization of instrumentation and/or equipment by preparation of requested instrumentation and/or equipment for surgical and clinical procedures.

  • Assists with orientation and every day workflow of assignments of new employees. Assist with development of in-service for staff members. Coordinates daily workflow with staff members to ensure timely completion.

  • Monitors workflow performed by staff to ensure correctness.

  • Assists with ensuring staff are following guidelines and assignments of tasks are completed timely and accurately. b. Demonstrates and understands principles of sterilization in preparing items for OR and clinic use. Operates all sterilization and HLD equipment according to manufacture requirements and departmental policies.

c. Demonstrates and understands principles of decontamination and standard precautions. Assures that all employees demonstrate and understand the principles of decontamination.

d. Understands and has the ability to function as a sterile processing technician and/or endoscopy tech specialist.

e. Monitors and inventories the supplies and ensures instrumentation is available for OR and clinical areas.

f. Ensures implementation of standards within the quality assurance monitoring process and improvements are followed. Monitors record keeping of repairs, maintenance, quality assurance measures are up to date and documented daily.

g. Maintains and reviews missing instrumentation. Puts in requests for missing instrument orders and instrument par needed to maintain functioning instrument trays.

Position Qualifications

Required :

  • Certified CSP

  • Job requires High school graduate or GED and 3 years of experience or the equivalent.

Preferred:

  • One year of general leadership experience preferred

  • Experience working in a Larger Hospital with 500+ beds helpful

  • 3 rd shift – Monday – Friday – 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM
