JOB SUMMARY:

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking to hire a Respiratory Therapist, whom will have responsibilities for providing routine and specialized respiratory care procedures in a critical care environment; including respiratory care assessments and diagnostic testing procedures associated with respiratory care in the academic hospital and Vanderbilt clinics settings. Vanderbilt’s Respiratory Care Practitioners are assigned multiple areas of patient care based upon census, diagnostic testing, and therapy demands.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Initiatesand maintains mechanical ventilation.

  • Provideseducation for students in affiliated clinical training programs as well aspatients and families.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES:

VENTILATOR MANAGEMENT (NOVICE): - Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate ventilator management in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments.

AIRWAY ESTABLISHING / MANUAL RESUSCITATION (NOVICE): - Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate airway establishing / manual resuscitation in practical applications of moderate difficulty.

LABORATORY TESTING & ANALYSIS (NOVICE): - Demonstrates sufficient knowledge of the primary laboratory tests required by the department to successfully meet work objectives. Understands the core functions and features of the core laboratory tests. Able to interpret results of the test under general supervision.

RESPIRATORY THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES (NOVICE): - Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate respiratory therapeutic procedures in practical applications of moderate difficulty.

Position Qualifications

Required:

  • RegisteredRespiratory Therapist (RRT) Certification with NBRC

  • ActiveRegistered Respiratory Therapist licensure in the state of Tennessee

  • ActiveBLS status or eligibility to obtain prior to hire date

  • Attentionto detail, ability to work well under pressure with tight turnaroundtimes, and ability to adapt in a diverse, team-based culture

Preferred:

  • ABachelor of Science degree in Respiratory Therapy (BSRRT) or relateddegree equivalency

  • Minimumof 1 year Respiratory Therapy experience in a Level 1 Trauma setting

  • NBRC'sACCS Credentials and a strong passion for practicing in the adult criticalcare setting, beyond basic or routine competencies associated with generalrespiratory care procedures

  • Specializationin Arterial Blood Gases (ABG) endorsement credentials

  • ActiveACLS provider from American Heart Association

Position Shift:

  • 7am-7pmCST, 3 days per week

  • Aformal training and orientation is included for new employees to ensureevery patient receives the highest quality of personalized care in a safeand effective manner, meeting the Credo Pillar

  • OurAdult Respiratory Care teams work in 12 hour shifts to ensure amplecoverage for our patients accross the organization
