VUMC TempForce has opportunities for Patient Service Specialists . In this temporary role, you will provide excellent customer service to patients and providers during inbound and outbound phone calls while scheduling appointments, conduct check-in and check-out, capturing messages for the clinic staff and providers, and addressing the needs of the patient/cusotmer with occasional guidance. You will schedule patient appointments, escalate patients' health concerns in accordance with individual division guidelines, provide connections to resources for clinical advice and guidance, and navigate situations while making sound effective decisions.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Ensures accuracy in answering questions and assistingcustomer with requests to meet their needs.

  • Captures customer information and document usingmessaging system to clinic staff and/or providers.

  • Schedules appointments in electronic systems usingguidelines for area/department including prioritizing patients' healthproblems according to their urgency, educating/advising patients andmaking safe, effective decisions.

  • Provides information to customer regarding appointmentlocation, process steps, parking, etc.

  • The responsibilities listed are a general overview ofthe position and additional duties may be assigned.


  • Monday – Friday

  • 8a-5p; 8:30-5:30p;7:30a-4:30p – will vary

Length of Assignment:

  • 10-12 Weeks

Specialized training:

  • EPIC training prior to startingassignment


  • High Schoolgraduate or GED minimum

  • One year ofexperience or the equivalent preferred.

  • Medical office / clinicexperience highly desired
